[dropcap]A[/dropcap] lot of growing small business and emerging enterprise companies make mobile apps just for the sake of having an app. No true direction or strategy are backing up this massive undertaking. The decision needs to be made up front on whether this app is an extension of the existing brand or will it be its own independent product. What absolutely can not happen is; someone says we need an app that does this; so a firm is hired to built it and that’s all there is to it. This logic inevitably leads to major struggles when it comes to marketing and growing usership of said app. A great app has a marketing and growth strategy before one line of code is ever written.

Michael Hardy, Founder of Inspired Blue Solutions puts it simple and plain;  “If the app is an extension of the business, then the marketing is relative to the success or buzz of the actual business. [While] marketing an app as an [independent] business can be a challenge. However, whether positive or negative, you have to be consistent in marketing and always self-evaluating of the app.” Initially, it was more acceptable to just market the app itself using the same traditional marketing techniques. That is no longer true because you aren’t actually trying to sell audiences on the app itself anymore. Instead, you are selling them on the experience your app provides. And, more importantly, how that experience is uniquely different and superior to any other experience they’ve previously had on mobile. This is not a new concept, by any means. Today’s consumers look for the simplest experiences offered by brands in fact, 86% of consumers are more likely to purchase when they are not overwhelmed with confusing information according to a study from the Harvard Business Review. Keep that in mind when you are writing your app’s in-store description. Market how the app will simplify users lives, not every little thing the app can do.

How should your brand best implement a mobile app?

Also remember the key to marketing mobile apps is to advertise where the mobile users already are. In other words, you fight mobile with mobile. The strategy of marketing the experience rather than the app is front and center here. The practice will cause customer experience to become a front-running issue of the business model. Don’t market your app—that’s simply is not enough anymore. You have to focus on the experiences that are only possible with your product. “The positive part is that if your app can serve the right niche market and your unique sales proposition is on point, it is easier to target and market your apps. It’s then more about content, the right ads, frequency, etc. to foster engagement. The ‘challenge’ is fighting the noise of the other apps out there, especially if your product is too similar to other apps. You can definitely get drowned out or lost in the shuffle, even with consistent marketing.” indicates Hardy.

Standing out amongst the clutter will lead to finding your loyal users; these users are more valuable than gold. Loyal users are the ones that are going to turn that download into revenue and a positive ROI and actually use the app and its features. If you aren’t acquiring loyal users, there may be a major problem with the design and functionality of your app. The loyal users you foster, at the end of the day, are going to determine the success and future of your business mobile application.

[dropcap]T[/dropcap]he concept was started as a marketing campaign by American Express in 2010. There are over 23 million small businesses in the United States, which is a 49 % increase from 1982. Small businesses have created 8 million jobs since 1990, and 54% of U.S. sales happen at small businesses. Small businesses’ employ roughly 8 million people. Making them responsible for 40 percent of all American retail jobs. According to an SBA civic economics study, small businesses donate 250% more than large corporations to nonprofits and local community causes.

In 2012 NFIB and Amex estimated that Small Business Saturday shoppers spent an estimated $5.5 billion at smaller retailers. In 2015 nearly 95 million people went out to shop small. Spending reached $16.2 billion, which was a 14 percent increase from 2014. A National Retail Federation survey said, “More than 164 million consumers plan to shop over five-day Thanksgiving weekend in 2018. Forty-one percent (67 million) are expected to shop on Small Business Saturday, and 78 percent of those say they will do so specifically to support small businesses.”

Survey data shows that 70 percent of U.S. consumers are aware of Small Business Saturday

There’s data that suggest upwards of 70 percent of U.S. consumers are aware of Small Business Saturday, the same report from a Consumer Insights Survey found, that four in ten, or 43 percent of American adults either shopped or dined small. 58 percent say they shopped or dined at more than one independently owned business. What’s more, support for small businesses went beyond brick-and-mortar with 35 percent saying they shopped online. Small Business Saturday saw 108 million shoppers spend $12.9 billion last year at independently owned businesses. That is a slight downturn from the 112 million shoppers spending more than $15 billion in 2016.

Before you start developing more content to share on social, you need to figure out what your audience actually likes. A fantastic way to do that is to look at the metrics for past social media posts to see which were most successful.

Metrics are data or statistics used to measure the effectiveness of your social media posts. Make sure you are monitoring your post performance by the metric that is most important to you. This may include shares, comments, and mentions or worded another way clicks, responses, and total reach.

Major brands and official sponsors are banking on this and thus have been planning for these very finals since the day after the Super Bowl, really since James’ chase down block in last years finals. The social campaigns mapped out weeks ago and digital engagement teams are ready to go all in with the hopes of grabbing the attention of someone new.

The NBA has a network of nearly 15 million digital followers; it’s a network that brands crave. Last year Verizon, which replaced Sprint as an NBA partner, created a “Data Dunk” contest where customers had a chance to win free data during the Finals. Taco Bell is running a, “Steal a Game, Steal a Taco” national giveaway promotion during the Finals. The promotion offers free tacos if a team wins a road game in the NBA Finals.

KIA is the official automotive partner of the NBA and will have the strategic advantage of the prime placement of ads in the arenas and on TV. NBAtv will provide interactive shows before and after every game in which they will attempt gauge fan favorites and player polls. A seamless way for the NBAtv brand to engage every level of fan. ESPN commentators and analysts are set to provide two weeks of wire to wire coverage of every aspect of this series new and old as well as every single statistical breakdown imaginable.

ABC will pull at the heartstrings as every game will uncover the family stories of star players, and the unknown players alike. The focus will be given to backgrounds and upbringings, hardships and triumphs. Analysis from every outlet will break down every player and stat and encourage fans to not only watch but also to share via social media teasers.
